VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

OMEA Convention

The Oregon Music Educators Association holds a convention every January where the All-State Band, Orchestra, and Choir perform in a gala concert.  UO students volunteer at the University to help rehearsals run smoothly.  College members escort students to Carson Dining Hall for lunch and dinner.  They also help run sectionals and set up rooms for rehearsals.

Programs Fair/ASUO Street Faire

The Programs Fair happens during the first week of fall term.  Student groups from the University of Oregon set up booths and promote their programs.  The NAfME collegiate chapter teaches five minute lessons on a variety of instruments and provides information on ensembles at the School of Music.  This event is a great opportunity for NAfME collegiate members to practice teaching instrument and voice lessons.

The ASUO Street Faire is similar to the Programs Fair and happens during the first week of May.  Many performing groups and vendors set up booths along 13th street on campus.  The UO NAfME collegiate chapter also offers five minute lessons and information about ensembles at the School of Music.

Performing in the Community

As NAfME collegiate is growing, we are creating more performance opportunities across the community.

  1. Music on campus: We are hoping to create a weekly performance series near the EMU.  Our hope is to create opportunities for small ensembles to perform and get music out onto campus.

  2. Music in retirement centers:  Another goal is to perform in retirement centers to increase community outreach.

  3. Performances in area school: We would also like to start performing in schools around the Eugene area. We are in a school of music with many performance groups, however it is rather uncommon for students to perform in the middle and high schools around Eugene.
